Day 7 Unit 3

Unit 3. Continue with Quest game.

Let’s continue with the Quest game. The players in this game are looking for an object. We need to code the object to be hidden in a particular location in one of the stages. The player wins when she successfully finds the object.

https://csfirst.withgoogle.com/c/cs-first/en/game-design/quest-game/hide-the-object.html

  1. Select the object sprite and a costume from the costumes tab.
  2. Show the object in one location using “when backdrop switches” and “show” blocks.
  3. Hide the object at the start of the program using “when backdrop switches” and “hide” blocks.
  4. Program a winning condition using “touching,” “forever,” and “if” blocks.

Now that the structure of the game is finished, let’s add some storytelling to make the game interesting.

What is the background story of this Quest? Make up a story and include the narrations into your scenes.

https://csfirst.withgoogle.com/c/cs-first/en/game-design/quest-game/add-storytelling-elements.html

  1. Add text to the narrative sprite’s three costumes to introduce your story.
  2. Program the slides to show.
  3. Make the character sprite say something when the backdrop changes.

Congratulations! You have created your own role playing game!

You can personalize your RPG by adding extra to your game.

https://csfirst.withgoogle.com/c/cs-first/en/game-design/quest-game/add-ons.html

  1. In Peek-a-boo, make the game more challenging by showing the object only if the character is nearby.
  2. Add some interactive items that make sound when the character walks over them in Musical Objects.
  3. In Obstacle Obstruction make the maps more realistic by preventing the character from running into obstacles, like trees or buildings.
  4. Hide the object in a random location each time in Hide and Seek.
  5. Or introduce more stages and more characters and build up your story.

We will let you play with this more at home and we will share your games tomorrow.

Now it’s time for today’s reflection survey!
